SoE Annual Meeting 2019
2019 is the year for the establishment of the School of Environment (SoE). In order to summarize the research results in 2019, promote academic exchanges and discipline construction, create a strong academic atmosphere, and stimulate the awareness of academic innovation, the SoE held its 2019 academic annual meeting on January 11, 2019 in the conference room on the sixth floor of Science building No. 3. There were 19 talks given by 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 2 young researchers, 3 postdoctoral fellows, 5 PhD students and 4 Master students. More than 100 teachers and students attended the meeting.
Professor Ying Guangguo, the Dean of SoE, firstly given an opening speech. He emphasized the importance of academic exchange, interdisciplinary and good academic atmosphere for promoting scientific research. He hoped that the annual conference could facility the idea exchange and collaboration within the school, and improve the chances in large project applications and achieving high-level research.
The meeting included two sessions: talks from the staff in the morning and postgraduates in the afternoon. In the morning session, 10 staff presented on the topics of "the microbial-chemical coupling mechanism of arsenic transformation in soil", "advanced treatment of landfill leachate", "modification design of straw fiber ultrastructure", "regional pollution characteristics and control technology of neonicotinoids" and so on.
The afternoon session included 9 talks from our postgraduates (4 PhD and 5 Masters), which were assessed by five professors from the school. Mr. Yi Yunqiang and other students won the first prize, second prize and third prize respectively in the excellent postgraduate report of this annual academic meeting. In order to encourage the enthusiasm of graduate students to participate in academic activities, the school awarded 500, 300 and 200 RMB to the winners, respectively. Finally, Prof. Ying made a summary remarks, expressed thanks for the organization of this annual academic conference, congratulated the awarded postgraduate students, and presented awards to the winners together with the staff.
The annual meeting was very successful with the strong supports from all the staff and students from the school. The staff and students said that though the annual meeting is simple but of great significance and fruitful in many ways because it provides a good opportunity/platform for idea exchange. We all hope we can have this meeting regularly in the future! Therefore, it has been decided that the SoE will have this meeting at the end of each year, which will play a key role in promoting academic prosperity, improving research, strengthening discipline construction and enhancing the cohesion of the school!
